Class Descriptions

Show classes for:
Ballet I

Beginner/Intermediate Ballet class for students in 1st through 4th grade.  Students will learn terminology and movements, and how to execute them properly in combinations in order to gain muscle, advance skill and prevent injury.  Students will also learn ballet class etiquette, parts of the body and how ballet is the foundation for most dance forms.

Hip Hop I

Beginner/Intermediate Hip Hop class for students in 1st through 3rd grade.  This class is designed to improve fitness and increase knowledge in this style of dance.  Students specifically gain knowledge of the various hip hop styles, body movements, and terminology and are challenged with choreography.

Hip Hop II

Beginner/Intermediate Hip Hop class for students in 4th and 5th grade.  This class is designed to improve fitness and increase knowledge in this style of dance.  Students specifically gain knowledge of the various hip hop styles, body movements, and terminology and are challenged with choreography. 

Hip Hop III

Beginner/Intermediate Hip Hop class for students in 6th through 9th grade.  This class is designed to improve fitness and increase knowledge in this style of dance.  Students specifically gain knowledge of the various hip hop styles, body movements, and terminology and are challenged with choreography. 

Jazz/Tap I

Beginner/Intermediate Jazz  and Tap class for students in 1st through 3rd grade.  This class is designed to teach jazz and tap movements, along with development of dance terminology.

Jazz/Tap II

Beginner/Intermediate Jazz  and Tap class for students in 4th and 5th grade.  This class is designed to teach jazz and tap movements, along with development of dance terminology.

Performance Dance Company

This class is for students in 4th through 6th grade. Students work with various choreographers, diverse types of instruction, and different dance styles to become versatile dancers.  They make great friends in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.  Students advance faster due to more focused training and gain more confidence. *Teacher approval required prior to registration. 

Acting Fundamentals I

This class is open to students in 1st through 5th grade. Students will strengthen their acting muscles and theatre mind-set through the use of method-based acting exercises, teacher and students lead discussions, and research-based activities.  Scene and monologue work will be a large part of the class focus.  This is class is not intended to be a performance-based class, but rather a class that develops skills students will utilize in their performance classes. The class will culminate with parents being invited to a final rehearsal/show of scenes and monologues. *It is also one of the required class options for our Main Stage Jr. Production participants.

This class is open to students in 6th through 12th grade. Students will strengthen their acting muscles and theatre mind-set through the use of method-based acting exercises, teacher and students lead discussions, and research-based activities.  Scene and monologue work will be a large part of the class focus.  This is class is not intended to be a performance-based class, but rather a class that develops skills students will utilize in their performance classes. This class open to students in 1st through 5th grade. It is a great blend of performance and exploration centered around the exciting world of musical theatre.  Students will get to flex their acting and singing muscles all while taking on challenging scenes from some of the most popular and beloved musical shows. Monologue and solo work will be a large component of this class, as well as helping students find a better understanding of musical theatre structure and audition techniques. This a great class for those interested in giving our theatre program a try.  *It is also one of the required class options for our Main Stage Jr. Production participants. 

Acting for Musical Theatre II

Acting Sketchy

This class is for students in 3rd through 8th grade. Students will write, direct and perform their very own comedy sketch show! Parents will be invited to attend a full-length performance in our Black Box Theatre space at the end of the semester. We know your kids are funny, now it's time to let them show off!

Main Stage Jr. Production

This class will solely focus on the Fall semester's Main Stage Jr. Production and is open to students in 1st through 5th grade. All students in this class are required to enroll in either Acting Fundamentals I or Acting for Musical Theatre I (at no additional tuition cost). Students will rehearse and craft the show in a semi-professional atmosphere, while learning the importance of ensemble, responsibility, professionalism, and community as it relates to all areas of theatre.  Students are required to attend all rehearsals including tech week and shows.  Students and parents will sign a contract committing fully to the class once casting is set.  Please note this class meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. 

Main Stage Production

This class will solely focus on the Fall semester's Main Stage Production and is open to students in 6th through 8th grade. All students in this class are required to enroll in either the Acting Fundamentals II or Acting for Musical Theatre II (at no additional tuition cost). Students will rehearse and craft the show in a semi-professional atmosphere, while learning the importance of ensemble, responsibility, professionalism, and community as it relates to all areas of theatre. Students are required to attend all rehearsals including tech week and shows. Students and parents will sign a contract committing fully to the class once casting is set. Please note this class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays 4:45-6:00pm, and select Fridays 5:00-6:00pm. 

Performance Vocals

This class is open to students in 1st through 8th grade. All levels of experience welcome. Students will learn and perform popular songs from all genres, as well as learn a solo, act as a backup dancer for other students, and create an ensemble ready for the stage!

Stage Dialect

This 8-week class is open to all students in 1st through 8th grade and will offer instruction on how to execute believable accents, or dialects for performance.  We will focus heavily on standard British in preparation for Matilda Jr. Students will also learn a few other common stage dialects, such as Russian, Italian, French and Spanish.  Lessons will be fun and exciting, using games and silly monologues the students can practice with.  Current Main Stage and Main Stage Jr. students will benefit greatly from the class as it offers a more in-depth look at the dialect being used for the show.

Tampa Young Performer's Ensemble

This class is open to students in 9th through 12th grade. This class will focus on crafting the perfect audition, honing performance skills through in-depth scene work and rehearsing a full-length play. Students will receive instruction in all areas of theatre production, have opportunities to try their hand at directing, and even help with our Main Stage Productions. The Tampa Young Performer's Ensemble will culminate iwth a live performance of a full-length play in our Black Box space. Students will sign a contract committing fully to the class once casting is set.

Jazz/Tap III

Beginner/Intermediate Jazz  and Tap class for students in 6th through 9th grade.  This class is designed to teach jazz and tap movements, along with development of dance terminology.

Beach Party-Sept. 12th

Say farewell to summer with an island beach party inspired by Disney's Teen Beach Movie! During this bash, party goers will be able to sing and dance along to all the hits from Teen Beach Movie, strike some surfer poses, and hang out with friends! Party goes are also encouraged to wear summer styles to this summer bash they'll never forget! Snacks will be provided.

Main Stage Jr. Cast Movie Night-Sept. 18th

The Main Stage Jr. Cast are welcome to come together and watch the 1996 classic Matilda! Dinner will be provided. Matilda is rated PG for elements of exaggerated ridicule and for some mild language. We hope the entire cast can join us for this popular tradition!

Harry Potter Night-Oct. 10th

Witches and wizards of all ages are invited to Hogwarts for a night of magic and whimsy. Students will find out which house they belong to and participate in other themed activities. The night will conclude with the first film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Dinner will be provided. Harry Potter and the Socerer's Stone is rated PG for some scary moments and mild language.

Stage Makeup and Special Effects-Oct. 24th

Want to take your makeup routine to the next level? Or maybe you've always wondered how makeup artists make bumps and bruises look real? Participants in this fun day session will watch and participate in a few YouTube makeup tutorials with friends, and then have the opportunity to learn how to do special makeup effects like the pros! Students are encouraged to bring their own makeup/stage kits to this party, as well as makeup remover. Snacks will be provided.

Halloween Bash-Oct. 30th

Come together for a night of spooky fun as we celebrate Halloween-STCFTA style! All participants are encouraged to come dressed in costume as we mingle with friends and dance the night away! Candy, of course, will be plenty in supply. The night concludes with the frightfully fun adventure Hocus Pocus! Treats will be provided. Hocus Pocus is rated PG for some scary sequences and mild language. 

Broadway Dance Party-Nov. 14th

Here's your chance to grab your dancing shoes and dance the day away! During this bash, students will learn dance combinations to three iconic musical theatre hits (think High School Musical's "We're All in This Together") and then perform them! This day is sure to be full of singing, dancing, and plenty of fun! Snacks will be provided. Dance numbers learned will be filmed and sent to family members to enjoy!
